Gary W. Hankins is the elected Retired Police Officer Trustee to the District of Columbia Retirement Board of Trustees. Mr. Hankins was elected to the DC Retirement Board by special election in October of 2013. He serves as Sergeant-at Arms of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee, and he is a member of the Investments and Operations Committees.
Mr. Hankins serves as Vice Chairman of the Police Federal Credit Union where he was first elected to that Board in 1989. He served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. During his service, he graduated from the Joint Armed Services Information Institute and served as a Public Information Officer.
Mr. Hankins joined the Metropolitan Police Department in 1970 and served until 1992. As a member of the MPD, he helped to form the Fraternal Order of Police-Metropolitan Police Labor Committee which is the union for rank-and-file officers. He was elected as its Chairman in 1980 and continued in that position until he retired in 1992. Upon retirement from the MPD, he was elected president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge D.C. #1.
After completing his term as president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge D.C. #1, Gary founded Gary Hankins & Associates. His firm specializes in representing law enforcement unions.
Mr. Hankins' current term expires on January 27, 2017.
