DCRB Mourns the Passing of Trustee James Bunn

James Bunn, a Mayoral–appointee to the District of Columbia Retirement Board (the “Board”), died on Thursday, August 1, 2013. Mr. Bunn, who served as Vice Chair of the Board's Strategic Planning Committee, was appointed a trustee in March 2012 by Mayor Vincent C. Gray. During this most recent term, he was a member of the Operations and Investment Committees. Mr. Bunn also served on the Board from 1991 to 1995, when former City Council Chair John Wilson appointed him. During that period, Mr. Bunn  served on the Board’s Legislative, Investment, and Fiduciary Committees.

An activist and strong promoter of the District and Ward 8, Mr. Bunn was Executive Director of the Ward 8 Business Council and chairman of Congress Heights Main Streets. His two sons, James and Rodney, are D.C. firefighters, and a daughter, Sheila, is Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Vincent C. Gray. He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Linda Marie Bunn; a brother, Charles "Little" Bunn and a sister, Janet Arrington. A devoted father, he leaves to cherish his memory, Dionne Byers, Sheila Bunn, James Bunn II, and Rodney Bunn. He was a loving brother to David Bunn, Paulette Key, and Jocelyn Mack.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life on Friday, August 9, 2013, at 10 a.m. (viewing at 9 a.m.). Both services will be held at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church, 2616 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE, Washington, DC.
