District of Columbia Retirement Board Announces with Sadness the Death of Longtime Board Member Mary A. Collins

WASHINGTON, DC – The District of Columbia Retirement Board (DCRB) announced the passing of longtime Board member Mary A. Collins. 

Trustee Mary Collins served Washington, DC’s teachers, police officers, and firefighters for more than two decades as a member of DCRB’s Board of Trustees. She served as the Elected Active Teacher Trustee for 12 years from 1997 until 2009, and then later for another 12 years as the Elected Retired Teacher Trustee from 2013 until her passing on July 24, 2025.

Danny Gregg, Chair of DCRB’s Board of Trustees and the Elected Retired Police Officer Trustee representative, stated: “It has been a privilege working alongside Mary on DCRB’s Board. Her longtime leadership and guidance have been invaluable to DCRB and the thousands of active and retired teachers, police officers, and firefighters in the District. Trustee Collins will be missed.”

Gianpiero (JP) Balestrieri, DCRB’s Executive Director, added: “On behalf of DCRB, I wish her family and friends our deep sympathies and blessings of peace, warmth and love in her memory. We will be forever grateful to Trustee Collins for her dedication and leadership to DCRB.”
