The Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) and the District of Columbia Employees Health Benefits (DCEHB) annual open enrollment period, also known as “Open Season,” is when retirees can make changes to their health insurance plans. The 2025 Open Enrollment season is now closed.
During open enrollment, you can:
- Change your current health plan
- Update your family status (e.g., add or remove eligible dependents)
- Cancel your enrollment
- Suspend your enrollment
Changes to your health insurance plans can be made only during the designated Open Season period, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to certain qualifying life events, such as marriage, birth of a child, or loss of other coverage.
Additionally, this year, there is a special open enrollment for participants of the District of Columbia Employee Group Life Insurance (DCEGLI) program. This special open enrollment ran concurrently with the annual health insurance open enrollment period, from Monday, November 10, 2025, to Monday, December 8, 2025. The special open enrollment is now closed.
