Continuation of Life Insurance Coverage

To continue your life insurance as a District of Columbia retiree through the District of Columbia Employees Group Life Insurance (DCEGLI) program, you need to submit the Continuation of Life Insurance Coverage form. This program offers Basic Life Insurance, additional life insurance options, as well as coverage for your family.

Below is a breakdown of the specific sections you need to review:

  • Basic Life Insurance: You must choose a reduction level for your basic coverage (e.g., 75% Reduction, 50% Reduction, or No Reduction). This determines how much your coverage decreases and what your monthly premiums will be after age 65.
  • Option A (Standard): Provides $10,000 of coverage. You must decide whether to continue or cancel this.
  • Option B (Additional): Covers 1 to 5 times your annual salary. You must choose how many multiples to carry into retirement and the reduction level for each.
  • Option C (Family): Provides coverage for your spouse and eligible children. Like Option B, you choose the number of multiples and the reduction level.
