On February 25, 2020, the DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR) has announced the 2020 cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for retirees and survivors receiving annuities under the District of Columbia Police Officers and Firefighters’ Retirement Plan and the District of Columbia Teachers’ Retirement Plan.

Due to the changes in the Consumer Price Index applicable to the Plans during calendar year 2019, Teachers Plan annuitants will receive a COLA of 2.3% and Police and Firefighter’s Plan annuitants will receive a COLA of 2.3% for 2020.

In accordance with the provisions of the applicable statutes, the effective date of these increases is March 1, 2020, and they are payable to eligible annuitants effective April 1, 2020.

Please note: Members who retired after March 1, 2019, and before March 1, 2020, are entitled to a prorated COLA equal to 1/12th of the above increase for each month or partial month (for a maximum of 12 months) for which their annuity was effective.
