Tuesday, February 16, 2021

On February 2, 2021, the DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR) announced the 2021 cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for retirees and survivors receiving annuities under the District of Columbia Police Officers and Firefighters’ Retirement Plan (Police and Firefighters’ Plan) and the District of Columbia Teachers’ Retirement Plan (Teachers’ Plan).

In accordance with changes in the Consumer Price Index applicable to the Plans during calendar year 2020, Teachers Plan annuitants will receive a COLA of 1.4% and Police and Firefighters’ Plan annuitants will also receive a COLA of 1.4%.

As provided in the applicable statutes, the effective date of these increases is March 1, 2021, and they are payable to eligible annuitants beginning April 1, 2021.

Members who retired after March 1, 2020, and before March 1, 2021, are entitled to a prorated COLA equal to 1/12th of the above increase for each month or partial month (for a maximum of 12 months) for which their annuity was effective.  For more detailed information about the COLAs related to each Plan, download and open the PDF attached below.
