Sworn members of the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department and Fire Emergency Medical Services Department may be eligible to purchase active military service.
The District of Columbia Retirement Board (DCRB) is pleased to offer a military purchase of service calculator to Plan members to aid in estimating the cost of purchasing active military service before their hire date. This basic tool allows members to enter their data and receive an estimated benefit based on the data that has been entered.
If you are eligible to receive or you are receiving a military pension based on active military service you performed before your hire date with the Police or Fire Department, you may not purchase your military service unless your military pension is for a disability that you incurred during combat or certain other activities in the line of military duty that resulted in a disability military pension.

Your Earning Statement from your military branch. Click below for the Earning Statement form (RI-20-97) to be completed by you and the military branch office and a list of the Military Financial Centers to assist with your Earning Statement request. (See attached document)

Please be aware that the results of this calculation are estimates based on the information you enter into the calculator. The District of Columbia Retirement Board doesn't have any liability or obligation, either legal or equitable, to utilize the output as a result of using this calculator. DCRB will determine your final military purchase of service benefit amount.
