On June 7, 2005, the DC Council approved pay increases for active police officers that also apply to officers who retired prior to February 15, 1980. Since the first three increases (indicated below) were for dates that have already passed, eligible retirees will not only receive increases to their current monthly annuity for the percentages that were missed, but will also be paid a lump-sum catch-up amount for increases they did not receive from December 2003 to August 2005.
Effective Date For Retirees | Payable Date For Retirees | Annual Increase |
11/1/2003 | 12/1/2003 | 4% |
11/1/2004 | 12/1/2004 | 2% |
05/1/2005 | 06/1/2005 | 2% |
This means that your September monthly pension payment will be increased by the above percentages, and your payment will also include approximately 60% of the catch-up amount. In October, you will receive your increased monthly pension payment, along with the remaining 40% of the catch-up amount. In November, you will receive your regular monthly payment, and in December, your monthly payment will be increased by an additional 4%.
