The 2017 versions of the Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) for the District of Columbia Teachers’ Retirement Plan and the District of Columbia Police Officers and Firefighters’ Retirement Plan have been released. Printed copies of the SPDs, along with a cover letter, were mailed to annuitants in late May. At that same time, an email message was sent to all active Plan members at their dc.gov email address with a link to an electronic copy of their SPD. Those active members who prefer a paper copy may receive one, free of charge, by contacting their human resources department or the DCRB Member Services Center at the numbers indicated below. Although there were no amendments to the benefits offered under the Plans since the 2012 SPD was published, the 2017 SPDs were updated to clarify statutory Plan provisions, remove redundant information for easier reading, and provide explanatory information, where needed. Also, these new SPDs were expanded to contain explanations and examples to make complex subjects easier to understand, and the administrative and procedural sections have been revised, were needed, to reflect current benefits administration procedures and updated addresses and phone numbers.
