Special Election for Active Teacher Trustee Was Delayed But Has Resumed

The Special Election for an Active Teacher Trustee to the District of Columbia Retirement Board (DCRB) was delayed due to an unfortunate error related to the printing and mailing of the Election Notice and Nomination Package. The envelopes containing the notice of election, request for nominations, and statement of candidacy forms were mislabeled. The election vendor, Election-America, Inc., mailed new election materials to all eligible Active Teachers on November 9, 2018.

DCRB has released an updated election schedule. Please see below:

Start of the 2018 Active Teacher Trustee Special Election cycle November 7, 2018
Election notification packets mailed to qualified voters November 9, 2018
Last day to file a completed Statement of Candidacy form, including Qualifications Statements, with Election Official November 30, 2018
Qualified voters notified of their eligibility or ineligibility to stand for election December 5, 2018
Qualified voters are notified of drawing of lots December 5, 2018
Drawing of lots for ballot placement order December 12, 2018
Election ballots mailed to qualified voters; Online voting and telephone voting opens December 17, 2018
Last day to vote in Active Teachers Election January 15, 2019
Ballots counted & certified by the Election Official January 16, 2019
Election results certified by the Board January 17, 2019
Notice of results published in D.C. Register February 8, 2018
Trustees’ term begins January 28, 2018
Challenges to election filed with the Board February 18, 2019
Election results are deemed final March 18, 2019

All active teachers whose statement of candidacy forms were previously accepted and approved will remain on the ballot as candidates eligible for election. If you no longer wish to be considered for the Active Teacher Trustee position and would like to withdraw your statement of candidacy, or if you have any other inquiries regarding the election, please contact Election-America, Inc. by phone at 1(866) 877-3125.
